The children practised the skills of working scientifically by sorting sweets into groups in a variety of different ways.
Given a wide variety of sweets, the children were tasked with classifying them in a number of different ways. They were told to look closely using magnifying glasses and to feel the sweets to help them. The children were tasked with coming up with as many different ways to sort them as possible. After finally accepting that the 'rocks' weren't for eating, they used them very effectively.
Once finished, they reflected on the skills and how they will apply this in the rest of the unit to sort rocks, soils and fossils.
