Exploring maps of Bishopsteignton10 June 2026 (by admin) |
As part of our topic 'Love where you live', Voyagers and Discoverers have been comparing maps from over a 100 years ago with maps of today to discover how our village has changed over time.
By using a range of geographical skills, they studied map symbols, keys and features to identify similarities and differences. We used printed maps as well as digital maps to be able to zoom in to see symbols closer.
The children explored both human geography, such as houses, roads and buildings, and physical geography, including fields, rivers and woodland. They discussed how and why the village has developed while considering which natural features have remained the same and why some have changed.
This exciting investigation helped children develop their map-reading, observation and enquiry skills while gaining a deeper understanding of their local area. It was great to see the curiosity of the children and the higher level questioning in this lesson. We certainly discussed and learn a lot about Bishopsteignton.
