WW1 Soldiers and Sailors of Bishopsteignton

    13 November 2018 (by admin)

On Monday, the Pioneers and Inventors were pleased to welcome a special guest speaker from the village, Jess.

Jess is part of the Bishopsteignton Heritage Group and has been doing some wonderful research about the soldiers and sailors who died in WW1 that were from Bishopsteignton. Jess spoke to the children about why she wanted to be involved in such a special project and how she had conducted her research. She also showed the children the Commonwealth War Graves website and just how much information can be found on one website. Of course, Jess also showed the children the Bishopsteignton School log books - which are over 100 years old! Year 5 and 6 then learnt more about the 25 soldiers who died from this village during WW1 and created a memorial cross in their honour. These crosses have now been planted in our forest school area for the rest of the school to visit and say thanks.
