    Earthquakes around the world

    11 October 2019 (by admin)

The children investigated why some countries fare better than others when an earthquake strikes.

The children learned about Haiti and Japan. They were given a fact about the number of people impacted by the Haitian 7.0 magnitude earthquake in 2010. They were then told how many less were impacted by the Japan 9.0 magnitude earthquake and tsunami in 2011. This sparked their curiosity. Why did a much more powerful earthquake cause much less damage?

The children's discussion, independent and group research led to some amazing learning about how many countries are much poorer and less developed then others.

The children discovered the impact this money can have, from a better education about earthquakes to earthquake proof buildings.

The children were given freedom to present their learning however they liked. The results were informative, unique and beautifully presented.
