PHYSICAL EDUCATION @ BISHOP

INTENT

PE at Bishopsteignton Primary School aims to develop a fun, high-quality physical education curriculum that inspires all pupils to succeed and excel their abilities in competitive sports and other physically-demanding activities. We will provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Our children will have opportunities to compete in sports and other activities that build character and help to embed qualities such as fairness and respect. PE will also provide a further context to embed some of our core values. Our children will develop RESILIENCE to persevere with activities that may once have felt too difficult. We are passionate about the need to teach children how to COLLABORATE and cooperate with others as part of a team to succeed.

Do you like PE? Why?

KS1
Rufus - Yea there’s loads of activities which you can do and its really fun - like we play this game where we use the mats and its like a shark game.
LKS2
I like PE - learning different sports, seeing if you like it  - a bit like food. I just like going crazy and running around. Olly
UKS2
'Yes because I find it fun, learning new skills you might not have learnt before.' Brianna
'You don’t have to sit down looking at a board. When I’m at home I normally do dog walks and sports later in the afternoon so I wouldn’t normally be active in the morning. It wakes your body up.' Billy

Do you feel challenged in PE? Do you think PE is hard or easy? Why?
KS1

'PE is a bit hard because, sometimes you have to stretch your arms and touch your toes and I can’t really do that. That’s our warm up.' Rufus

LKS2

'When things are new, sometimes quite challenging, but others are easier once I get used to them. Doing the skills in a different way can be tricky too.' Olly

'Sometimes I feel challenged because right now we’re learning tennis and it’s quite challenging to keep the ball where you want it to go. I think some other people would say the same. I feel less challenged when were bouncing the ball. I don’t feel challenged because at home we play tennis and we practice that skills at home.' Iona

UKS2

'Sometimes - because if you’re doing something that you already know you might have to be a few stages forwards, but if its something new you might find it a bit hard.' Brianna

'It depends what were doing - like netball I find a bit hard especially when you’re trying to shoot in the hoop and it needs to be perfect. Basketball is easier because it has a backboard. Volleyball was fun - I don’t know  the rules yet though!' Billy

Would you like to do more or less PE? Why?
KS1
'More PE because it’s got fun activities and its good to stretch. Lots of activity in a lesson is the best.' Rufus
LKS2
'I would do the same amount because if it is too much you might have to change sports quite quickly. I think longer on one sport is better.' Olly
'More because it helps you gain your confidence and your strength because one day you might want to enter the olympics - like me for gymnastics.' Iona
UKS2
'Yes because it is fun we’re just doing things which you haven't done and you are playing with friends.' Brianna
'More because it’s more fun than sitting down. It gets you up and running and more using more energy which I need because I'm tired at the moment.' Billy
