Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Information Report

At Bishopsteignton Preschool, we believe that every pupil, regardless of gender, race, need or disability, has a right to equal access to a broad and balanced Early Years curriculum.

1. How we identify children with SEND

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and use regular observations and assessments to track children’s progress. We identify possible SEND if:
- A child is not making expected progress compared with their peers
- There are concerns raised by parents, carers, staff or external agencies / professionals.
If concerns arise, we talk with parents as soon as possible and plan how to support the child.

2. How we support children with SEND

Our Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) works closely with staff and families to plan targeted support e.g.
- Individual plans with specific, achievable targets. Support plans are updated regularly, and next steps are agreed with parents and staff.
- Small group or one-to-one support where possible and/or inclusion funding available.
- Adaptations to the learning environment or routines, including the use of visual aids, communication tools, or sensory equipment
Support is regularly reviewed and adjusted as needed.

3. Working with parents, carers and professionals

We believe parents know their children best and so we involve parents in every stage of identifying needs and planning support. We offer meetings to discuss progress and need. We signpost parents to community support and services and make referrals where needed. Where other professionals and agency support is required, we work closely with other professionals to provide information and follow their recommendations to support the children. This might include speech and language therapist or pediatricians. We always seek parental consent before involving any external agencies.

5. Accessibility

Our preschool is accessible to all children. We make reasonable adjustments to ensure inclusion, for example, visuals, accessible entrances and toilets, adapted resources and equipment or additional staff training.

6. Concerns or complaints

If you have concerns about your child’s SEND provision:
1. Speak with your child’s key person, the Preschool Supervisor Christie Tribble or the SENCO.
2. If you remain concerned, contact the Headteacher at Bishopsteignton Primary School, Dave Killoran.
3. Further support can be sought from Devon’s SEND Information, Advice and Support Service (DIAS).

Our SENDCo: Emma Cully is part time (Thursdays) and her email address is: sendco@bishopschool.co.uk
